Here's your Green Impact Students' Unions award winners 2016

One night on from celebrating ten years of Green Impact at Students' Unions 2016, we awarded our winners of among the participants of Green Impact Students' Unions this year.

It's been another amazing year of staff and students working together to turn their students' unions into hubs of sustainability at the heart of their wider community. We're so proud to be able to reward these efforts with our annual Green Impact awards.

We've come on such a journey over the last decade, and this year has been no exception. We can't wait to see what our movement can achieve over the next ten years.

Walsall College Students' Union
Union of the Year - Further Education

We loved variety of ways Walsall College Students' Union are facilitating student engagement in sustainability projects and campaigns, and their student rep training is really well pitched.

Partnership building with groups and organisations off campus is really impressive as well as being pro-active in working alongside teaching staff who would like to explore collaborations through sustainability. And of course, the continued hard work on the Students Eats garden is brining such an asset to the college and the local community.

Leeds University Union
Union of the Year - Large Commercial

Leeds University Union have a proud history of driving action on sustainability, and this year they've worked very hard on embedding sustainability into their organisational values.

And it hasn't stopped at the edge of campus. They have also done amazing work working with the local council for a bike rental scheme in Leeds and supporting student led sustainability initiatives.

Trinity Saint David Students' Union
Most Improved Union

It was great to see senior support at the forefront of Green Impact, and that probably played a huge part in becoming our most improved union this year.

It is clear that Trinity Saint David Students' Union have put a lot of effort in to trying to engaging students and completing the criteria despite being spread across different campuses. Keep up the great work!

Bangor Students' Union
Union of the Year - Non-Commercial
Special Award Winner

It was a pleasure to audit Bangor Students' Union. From a successful food bank project to a campaign on representation in curriculums, it's amazing to see these sorts of initiatives are directly part of the students' unions strategy.

It's especially impressive that this has all happened during a move into a new union building. The team had to work a little harder in ensuring everything is run as sustainably as possible, but it's all been well worth it.

And this year Bangor also won our Special Award for their international development work in partnership with Makerere University Student Guild, Uganda. This enabled students in both universities to take a lead on promoting the three aspects of Sustainability - environmental, social and economic in their universities and community

Students Association of the University of West of Scotland
Union of the Year - Small Commercial

Students' Association of the University of West of Scotland have continued to maintain their high standard of sustainability throughout their association this year.

Their success lies in their ability to develop and embed sustainability year on year, and by engaging both staff and students in their sustainability practice, they've illustrated their ongoing dedication to the sustainability agenda.

Well done to all unions who took part in Green Impact this year, and over the last decade. Talk to us about where we take Green Impact over the ten years to come, and get involved in the year ahead.
