Anglia Ruskin University and its Students Union first joined the Responsible Futures programme in 2016, were first accredited in November 2016, and were accredited for a second time in November 2018. As one of three host partnerships, they aim to share their leadership and learnings from the progress theyve made as part of the programme.

The University has a unique approach to ESD, grounded in sustainability theory from their Global Sustainability Institute, and applied through action research initiatives aligned with the universitys Education Strategy and Active Curriculum. ARU was one of the first universities to make ESD a core part of the academic regulation. As a Host Partner, they intend to support other HEIs to ensure that sustainability learning is embedded in every course, addressing goal 4.7 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Alongside this, they will showcase the range of Living Lab opportunities that have been established at ARU, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability in the community.

At a time when young people across the country are demanding that their education incorporate more learning on sustainability, we are thrilled to have been selected as one of three newly established Responsible Futures NUS Host Partnerships.  This recognises the work we have been doing across the university and especially within the curriculum, to develop graduates who are aware of their social and professional responsibility and able and willing to contribute to the creation of sustainable futures for all. We are really looking forward to sharing our learning with other institutions on their journey to making sustainability a core part of their provision Dr Alison Greig, Director of Education for Sustainability, Anglia Ruskin University
