Mock COP's campaigning ahead of COP27

September 5, 2022

The Mock COP team are still busy campaigning for the implementation of the Mock COP treaty and have lots exciting plans for the coming months which we have been busy getting underway.

MEET OUR NEW CAMPAIGN COODINATOR TEAM

We currently have 9 Campaign Coordinators managing the campaign activities and supporting volunteers.

They are working on the projects below, as well as driving social media engagement, supporting lobbying on the treaty globally, making plans to increase youth engagement with COP27 and climate action, and carrying out actions and developing relationships for better climate education. Coordinators also attended SB56 in Bonn; participated in the UNEP YEA! Global Summit; will be representing Mock COP at the Transforming Education Summit, COP27 and COP15; and represented Mock COP in "Advocacy Workshop: Making Progress on Climate Education and Higher Education", organised by SOS International and UNDP, where they presented Mock COPs works and how we are playing a significant role in reshaping the education system in a more climate centric method.

WE'RE CREATING AN ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSITY LEAGUE TABLE

In our new project, 1.5 degrees, we will be analysing engineeringeconomicslawpolitics, and health courses at the top-ranked 30 universities around the world, as well as the top university from each region not represented in the top 30 (according to THE). We will assess whether what they are teaching is compatible with keeping the global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees C, as per the Paris Agreement, and rank them in order of how progressive they are in how they are preparing their students to tackle the climate emergency and ecological crisis through their future career, creating an alternative league table.

WE HAVE ONBOARDED 220 NEW VOLUNTEERS TO HELP DRIVE CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES

Volunteer activities have included 3 Teach the Teachers in Bangladesh, volunteer lobby teams for over 20 countries, and volunteer engagement from 40 countries this year (10 more than last year)! We will also be having volunteer coordinators to manage different activities.

If you want to join us as a volunteer, then fill in this registration form to express interest.

IT'S TIME TO IGNITE THE CLIMATE CONVERSATION

Our project, Teach the Teacher (TtT)brings students from across the world into their schools to talk to their educators about climate change. The workshop delivered by students to their teachers explains what it is like to be a young person experiencing a climate emergency, what climate anxiety is, and how exploring climate action can help students turn their fear into power. Last year we ran TtTs in 45 schools in 21 countries. This year, we hope to reach at least 30 countries, bringing to light the lack of training in climate and environmental literacy that educators receive and the state of climate education in schools globally. We will also be training youth to run Teach the Governor and Teach the Parent sessions. Teach the Governor will take a similar approach to TtTs and will aim to influence those in positions that make strategic decisions for schools, whilst Teach the Parent will take a more informal approach of initiating climate conversations between youth and their parents or guardians to encourage them to make changes in their day-to-day lives.

If you would like to take part in Teach the Teacher as a student, teacher, governor (or similar), please fill in this form.

If you would to take part in Teach the Parent, as a young person or parent/guardian, please fill in this form.

Or if you think you can help us promote the projects and support more students and young people to take part, please get in touch by emailing hello@mockcop.org
